"Academy Award nominated director Hubert Davis investigates the incredible history of a 1955 Volkswagen Beetle through each of its drivers. Dating back to the original owner, three remarkable solo trips around the world are just the start of the story. As much as it is a story about the people connected by one machine, it's also an observation of our enduring fascination with the automobile."

The documentary premieres January 5th at 7:00PM ET on Discovery. I'm greatly looking forward to it!

Sweet! It airs when I should have time! This looks like it'll be, actually, quite awesome. I love stories like this.

I bumped into the previous owner of my car once. Only talked to him for a short time, but it was awesome to find out a little more of her history. I knew it was his college car... but I learned that college was in Florida! (I'm in Minnesota...) Wish I would bump into him again to maybe figure out a little more. He... uh, looked a little surprised that I haven't had any big issues with it. Haha.

My dad bought an old 911 from a radio DJ in town when I was in jr. high. 17 years later after I restored said 911 I emailed that DJ (who had taken me on a test ride in the car when my dad bought it) and sent him a bunch of pics. He called dibs if I ever wanted to sell and told me a few more stories about the car from when he had it in the 80s.

What a great story. I just finished watching this show. Simply amazing what this man did with his Beetle. I drove from Kelowna B.C. To Cabo San Lucas, Baja in my $1400 '72 VW bus and back home and thought that trip was epic. This guy was on a whole other level of trip and did it 35 years before me. VW sure has made some funky but simple an durable vehicles over the years. Great story.
